Tyco Electronics Presents Austin Lynx II Series
Tyco Electronics Power Systems Inc. (Dallas, TX) announced the 16A SuperLynx™ II, the 10A Austin Lynx™ II and the 6A MicroLynx™ II dc/dc converters in either a 12V or 5V/2.25V input-voltage range. Based on the Austin Lynx surface-mount technology (SMT) platform, the non-isolated converters offer backward pin compatibility and new features, including a wider input-voltage range and EZ-Sequence™ flexible output-voltage sequencing. The programmable output voltage provides a single standard dc/dc converter that can be used for various voltages on a printed wiring board across multiple applications.
The 5Vin/2.25Vin, 6A MicroLynx II converters offer 94% efficiency at 3.3V full load while the Austin Lynx II and SuperLynx II converters deliver 95% efficiency. The power modules can be used to convert an input voltage ranging between 2.25V to 5.5V to a tightly regulated output voltage of 0.75Vdc to 3.63Vdc, programmable within 1% using an external resistor. The 12Vin MicroLynx II converters offer 89% efficiency at 3.3V full load, the 12Vin Austin Lynx II delivers 93% and the 12Vin SuperLynx II offers 92%. The modules can be used to convert an input voltage ranging between 8.3V to 14V to a tightly regulated output voltage of 0.75Vdc to 5Vdc, programmable using an external resistor.
An open-frame construction and small footprint enables electronic designers to maximize available board space. The Austin Lynx II and SuperLynx II measure just 1.30in x 0.53in x 0.326in (33.00mm x 13.5mm x 8.28mm) while the Austin MicroLynx II converters are only 1.10in x 0.45in x 0.285in (27.9mm x 11.43mm x 7.29mm). Both modules are offered in an SMT package or tape and reel, suitable for automated production. The modules offer high reliability, with an estimated mean-time before failure of up to six million hours of operation for the Austin Lynx II and SuperLynx II converters, and up to 19 million hours for the Austin MicroLynx II converters. A robust construction enables the modules to operate in temperatures ranging from –40°F to +185°F (-40°C to +85°C) and withstand industry-standard handling, cleaning and soldering processes.
Prices for 1,000-piece quantities are $6.90 for the Austin MicroLynx II, $9.80 for the Austin Lynx II and $11.60 for the Austin SuperLynx II. Samples are available now.
