Tyco Electronics Debuts EQW Series DC Converters

January 07, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced its new EQW Series of industry-standard, eighth-brick, dc/dc converters, which are targeted at a broad range of communications equipment OEMs and can be used in powering distributed power and intermediate bus architectures as well as the latest integrated circuits or microprocessors.

The EQW Series modules provide up to 25A output current, using synchronous rectification technology and innovative packaging techniques to achieve ultra-high efficiency of 90 percent at 3.3V full load. A wide variety of models are available, operating over a nominal 48V input (36Vdc to 75Vdc) to create outputs of 1.2V/25A, 1.5V/25A, 1.8V/25A, 2.5V/20A, 3.3V/20A or 5.0V/13.3A.

The modules are available in through-hole or surface mount versions. All EQW Series modules offer a range of management features, including remote on/off, output voltage adjustment and remote sensing. Safety features include protection against output over-voltage, over-current or over-temperature of the module. Output ripple and noise are minimised, removing the need for additional external filtering.

An open-frame construction is able to withstand industry-standard, through-hole handling, soldering and cleaning processes and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C (40°F to 185°F). All EQW Series modules are built around an industry-standard, eighth-brick footprint of 2.28in x 0.90in, with a low profile of only 0.335in (57.9mm x 22.8mm x 8.5mm). The EQW010-020 modules are available now, priced at $49.10 in 1,000-unit quantities.
