SynQor Debuts PQ5553HEA08/HEB08 DC Converters

New Products Oct 06, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

SynQor Inc. (Boxborough, MA) debuted its new 53 V, 7.6 A output, half-brick dc-dc converters, the PQ5553HEA08 (open-frame version) and PQ5553HEB08 (base-plated version), use synchronous rectification and SynQor's patented topology to achieve high efficiencies, low power dissipation, and high reliability, in a single-board, open-frame, or base-plated package. The converters are suitable for Power-over-LAN and Voice-over-IP applications.

With an optimized input-voltage range of 38 V to 55 V, and operating at 95 percent efficiency, the open-frame device can supply up to 265 W at 55 °C ambient with just 200 LFM of forced-air cooling. For those applications requiring even more output power, the base-plated option allows the addition of a heatsink to increase the available power to the full 360 W rating. In keeping with the requirements of IEEE 802.3af, the device has a basic isolation level from input to output of 2,250 Vdc, and the design has been optimized to minimize common-mode noise. The wide trim range of -50 percent to +5 percent adds additional flexibility for the user to adjust to their desired output voltage. Other control and protection features include remote-sense, input under-voltage lockout, output over-voltage protection, current limit, short-circuit, and thermal shutdown.

Sample and production quantities of the new converters are available now, with a lead time of stock to eight weeks. The modules are priced at $97.00 in OEM quantities for the open-frame version.
