Spectrum Control Debuts DC SMARTstart PDU

New Products Jul 31, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Spectrum Control Inc. (Fairview, PA) announced its new DC SMARTstart power distribution unit (PDU) for remote and/or local power management, which is used to monitor and control power for secondary distribution and incorporates both manual and remote operation. Remote operation is accomplished through either an RS-232 serial console port or LAN TCP/IP telnet connection. The units are designed to maximize network uptime with a rapid circuit breaker trip time and reliable over-/under-voltage protection.

The DC SMARTstart units feature independent, programmable, power-on and off sequencing delays that manage the level of inrush current transients. The PDUs monitor line voltage, load current and internal temperature, and offer reverse-polarity protection. The PDUs will also control and monitor two sets of six independent 4A loads. Each output channel is rated to operate at 4A of dc continuous power and trip at 5.3A of nominal dc. Front-panel-mounted, remote-control circuit breakers provide over-current protection of 30A or 60A to the PDU and controlled secondary equipment. Units feature an input-voltage range of 38.5Vdc to 72Vdc. The operating temperature rating is from 0 to 45 degrees C and the operating humidity rating is from 0 to 95 percent.
