Sipex Unveils New SP6134/SP6137 Controllers

December 17, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Sipex Corp. (Milpitas, CA), a provider of high-performance, analog integrated circuits, introduced the new SP6134 and SP6137, two high-power, high-efficiency, synchronous step-down controllers for 12V applications. The devices reduce external component size by offering higher-frequency operation of 600KHz for the SP6134 and 900KHz for the SP6137.

The SP6134 and SP6137 are available in a MSOP package and include all provisions for loop stability and soft-start, making them suitable for a broad range of applications, including graphics cards, telecom equipment and other 12V distributed power systems. The two devices utilize an efficient pulse-width modulation architecture that drives dual NFET switches with efficiencies as high as 94%. They feature a programmable output-voltage range down to 0.8V and maintain 1.5% accuracy over a wide range of line, load and temperature conditions. Internal 2A gate drivers provide load current capability of up to 15A.

The SP6134 and SP6137 are available over the commercial 0°C to 70°C temperature range in a MSOP package. Pricing begins at $1.50 for the SP6134 and $1.75 for the SP6137 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
