Schroff Extends ecopower Switch Mode Regulator Range Of Power Supplies

September 04, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Schroff GmbH announced that it has extended its "ecopower" switch mode regulator range of power supplies. The ac-dc switch mode regulator ecopower SEC148-200 with 56V output for battery charging, particularly designed for Datacom and Telecommunications applications, is now also available with an output voltage of 48V.

Despite its output performance of 200W, the power supply only takes up a width of 6 HP in 3 U high 19" subracks. With this it is claimed that users will save approximately 6 HP in space in comparison to conventional power supplies of this performance level. Due to the efficiency level of up to 90% and very limited failures, the power supply can be arranged with convection cooling. This means that no fans are required, which drastically lowers the MTBF. The power supplies are particularly suitable for applications with high demands on functionality, as the operation can be in (n+1) redundant systems or hot-swap capable systems.

An integrated optional micro controller can be utilized for the control of the power supply. Output levels (for instance the UI, performance and resistance levels) can thus be defined and stored. The micro controller is equipped with digital inputs/outputs, so that for example temperature dependent fans can be switched off or alarms can be generated. The 200W ecopower modules are compatible with the 100W versions (SEM 148).

All ecopower switch mode regulators have a range of between 90 to 256V. With active power factor correction in accordance with EN 6100-3-2 an efficiency rating larger than 0.98 can be reached. For serial production fully automatic 100% tests including AOI and Burn-In for minimum 8 hours are claimed to guarantee the high quality of the product.
