Pulse Intros Five New Series of SMT Power Inductors

May 08, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Pulse Engineering Inc. (San Diego, CA), a manufacturer of passive electronic magnetic-based components, introduced five new series of unshielded and shielded surface-mount (SMT) drum core power inductors for a total of 96 different parts to meet a broad range of local dc-dc converter and filtering applications. Applications include catalog power modules, computer equipment, telecom equipment and consumer electronics.

The five new series of SMT drum core power inductors include the unshielded PF0504 Series that offers 15 values from 0.68 µH, 20 A to 150 µH, 2 A and measures 0.73 in x 0.6 in x 0.45 in; the unshielded PF0580 Series that offers 22 values from 1 µH, 3.1 A to 65 µH, 0.41 A and measures 0.185 in x 0.165 in x 0.137 in; the unshielded PF0581 Series that offers 22 values from 10 µH, 2.5 A to 560 µH, 0.32 A and measures 0.406 in x 0.367 in x 0.174 in; the shielded PF0601 Series that offers 22 values from 2.9 µH, 2 A to 330 µH, 0.19 A and measures 0.272 in x 0.256 in x 0.118 in; and the shielded PF0560 Series that offers 15 values from 1.5 µH, 6.5 A to 330 µH, 0.52 A and measures 0.409 in x 0.406 in x 0.157 in.

Both unshielded and shielded drum inductors in the new Pulse inductor series have been designed to work in an ambient temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C. The electrical performances given are for an ambient temperature of 25 °C. All parts in the series are RoHS-compliant and can support a peak reflow soldering temperature of 260 ° C. They also meet UL94 V0 standards.

Prices for the new drum core power inductors are between $0.10 and $0.20, depending on the part and quantity. They come in trays or tape-and-reel packaging. Lead-time is six to eight weeks.
