Power-One Unveils New X3117P POL Converter

November 03, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) announced the introduction of the X3117P, a 17A output, 12V input, point-of-load (POL) converter. The advanced two-phase, synchronous buck product is an addition to the maXyz™ family of intermediate bus architecture, dc/dc power solutions. The combination of a wide input-voltage range (10.8Vdc to 13.2Vdc) and a programmable output (1.2Vdc to 5VDC) facilitates the use of just one part in a variety of applications.

The X3117P reduces the printed circuit board area required when compared to discrete solutions and other POL regulators. The 15mm x 15mm LGA package integrates 35 power semiconductor and layout-critical passive components to provide industry-leading current and power densities of 50A/in² (7.5A/cm²) and 165W/in² (25W/cm²), respectively. The ultra-low-profile, 1.4mm height allows mounting on the bottom side of a host printed circuit board, further reducing space consumption on the top side of the board.

Pricing for the X3117P is $8.15 each for 10,000-piece quantities. Production quantities are available in six to eight weeks ARO.
