Power-One Intros YNM/YNL/YNS Series Converters

December 11, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) announced the new 5A YNM, 10A YNL and 16A YNS Series of point-of-load (POL) converters as the initial products in its new Nex™ family. The maXyz™ intermediate bus architecture (IBA) compatible products are designed and manufactured by di/dt, a Power-One company.

The Nex™ family combines industry-standard footprints and trim equations with enhanced features and improved electrical and thermal performance. The SMD converters, optimized for operation from a 10Vdc to 14Vdc IBA bus, are available in 0.8in x 0.45in x 0.25in (20.3mm x 11.4mm x 6.3mm) and 1.3in x 0.53in x 0.314in (33mm x 13.5mm x 8mm) packages. The YNL offers fixed outputs from 1V to 5Vdc. The YNM and YNS provide programmable outputs from 0.75Vdc to -5Vdc, facilitating the use of one part number for multiple applications.

Benchmarked with a 3.3Vdc output at 85°C ambient, utilizing only convection cooling, the YNM and YNL provide full-rated current operation, and the YNS can provide up to 14A. In quantities of 1,000 pieces, the YNM, YNL and YNS are priced at $9.50, $13.00 and $16.00, respectively. Samples and production are available now.
