Power-One Intros New Y5017P POL Converter

New Products Apr 20, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) announced its new Y5017P, a low-profile, surface-mount, high-efficiency, non-isolated, point-of-load (POL), dc-dc converter. The Y5017P, designed to deliver programmable low voltages at high currents in close proximity to the loads, is a horizontal version of the recently released Y5117P and is an extension of Power-One’s advanced maXyz™ product line for applications requiring low-profile devices.

Developed by Power-One’s Silicon Power Systems Division, the Y5017P offers a combination of a wide-input voltage range (3.0 Vdc to 13.2 Vdc) and a programmable output (0.7 Vdc to 3.63 Vdc), making it suitable for many intermediate bus architecture POL applications. The small footprint (16 mm x 32 mm) of the Y5017P delivers a current density of

21.5 A/in² (3.32 A/cm²). The low profile (7.7 mm) makes the device suitable for board designs where space is constrained and vertical clearance off the board is a problem. Additional features include remote voltage sensing, remote enable (on/off), output short-circuit protection, and a -40 °C to +110 °C operating-temperature range.

Volume pricing for the Y5017P is $15. Evaluation kits and samples are available upon request. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks. The Y5017P is available in tape-and-reel packaging and is fully compatible with automatic pick-and-place equipment.
