Power-One Introduces Sixteenth Brick DC-DC Converters With Efficiencies Exceeding 90%

New Products Jun 05, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One, Inc. introduced the SSQE48T family. These sixteenth-brick dc-dc converters provide outputs from 1.2 to 5Vdc, rated up to 25A. Efficiencies exceeding 90%, and tight regulation (+/-3% combined line, load, and temperature), make these products suitable distributed-power sources for communications, data server/storage, and workstation applications.

SSQE48T-Series converters feature rugged designs that provide up to 16.23 million hour MTBFs (calculated as per Telcordia TR-332, Method I Case 1) and the capability to withstand a 100V input transient for 100ms. Additional features include: 36 to 75Vdc input range, the capability to start up into pre-biased loads, no minimum-load operation, meets EN 60950 Basic Insulation requirements, and UL94 V-0 flammability rated.

Protections include: hiccup-mode overcurrent, output overvoltage, input undervoltage lockout, and overtemperature shutdown with hysteresis. Interface and trim capabilities include: remote sense, remote ON/OFF (positive or negative logic option), and +10–20% output voltage trim ranges with industry-standard trim equations. Safety agency approvals include: UL/CSA 60950-1, EN 60950-1, and IEC EN 60950-1.

SSQE48T through-hole-mount converters utilize a DOSA-compliant 0.9 x 1.3" (22.9 x 33mm) sixteenth-brick footprint, and a low-profile 0.374" (9.5mm) height.

Pricing for the 1.2Vout, 25A model is $25 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
