Power-One Debuts New E2S Series DC/DC Converters

April 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) announced the E2S Series of 15A, eighth-brick, dc/dc converters. Patent-pending technology combined with thermally optimized construction allows the E2S to provide full-rated power without a heatsink and minimal derating for operation in elevated ambient temperatures. The low-profile 8.5mm products are available in One-SMarT SMT-mountable and through-hole packages, and have 40-percent smaller footprints than quarter-brick converters, according to the company.

The E2S Series is designed for technically challenging communications applications such as optical networking and wireless. The single-output products provide a 1.0Vdc, 1.2Vdc, 1.5Vdc, 1.8Vdc, 2.0Vdc, 2.5Vdc, 3.3Vdc or 5Vdc output from an input of 36Vdc to 75Vdc, and are capable of starting up into highly capacitive loads. Features include 2,000Vdc input-to-output isolation, a set point accuracy of one percent, and low conducted and radiated EMI. Protection features include output over-current, output over-voltage and over-temperature. Interface features include remote on/off and remote sense.

Evaluation units are available for immediate delivery. The 1,000-piece price is $55 each.
