Power Integrations Intros New LinkSwitch TN Family

January 19, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Power Integrations Inc. (San Jose, CA), a leader in power conversion semiconductor technology, announced the new three-member LinkSwitch TN family of power conversion integrated circuits that cost-effectively replaces inefficient passive power supply designs. Applications for the new product family include electronic controls for major appliances, vacuum cleaners, small electric appliances, personal care products, utility meters, constant-current LED lighting, industrial controls, and timers.

The new monolithic, high-voltage, power conversion ICs are designed to replace non-isolated, low-current (<360mA) resistive/capacitive dropper and linear transformer power supplies. The LinkSwitch TN delivers switcher benefits (smaller size, lighter weight, superior performance and energy efficiency) at equal or lower system cost relative to the older technologies. The new product line utilizes the company's EcoSmart® technology, which reduces standby and no-load energy consumption.

The product family comes in either the plastic through-hole DIP-8, or a surface-mountable SMD-8 package. Pricing in 10,000-piece quantities for the smallest device, the 170mA LNK304P housed in a DIP-8 package, is $0.42 each. The largest device, the 360mA LNK306P, is priced at $0.59 each. Small quantities of each type are available from factory stock, with production quantities available four weeks ARO.
