New Products Feb 08, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Royal Philips Electronics (the Netherlands) announced its new Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) with 256 Byte FIFO and real-time error detection. The SC28L202, the newest member of the Philips IMPACT line of communication devices, is a two-channel UART operating at high speed with low-power consumption – operating at both 3V and 5V over the –40 °C to +85 °C degree temperature range.

The SC28L202 is suitable for use in portable and hand-held applications where power requirements are a key consideration. Utilizing all of the features of the IMPACT line UARTs, the SC28L202 is also suitable for use in telecom/networking, mobile communications/computing, consumer, industrial control, medical, and security applications.

As part of Philips’ IMPACT line of UARTS, the SC28L202 ensures operation at 3.3 V and 5 V over a temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C at commercial pricing and with pin programming for a variety of bus applications. The SC28L202 UART is currently available in the TSSOP-56 package for $6 in quantities of 1,000.
