Phihong Introduces New PSA100U Adapter

December 13, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Phihong USA (Fremont, CA) announced its new PSA100U power adapter, which features 85 percent efficiency, a high power density at 100W output, and universal ac input and worldwide EMC compliance.

The PSA100U has active protection to prevent damage to products or user loads under short-circuit, overload and over-voltage conditions without damage. It is suitable for use in industrial controls, imaging machines, networking systems and portable electronic equipment.

"The PSA100U power supply offers the highest efficiency in the industry," said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "Making the adapter small is useless unless the design achieves the high efficiency. Without it, the resulting internal temperature rise is potentially dangerous or a major reliability limiter. In many applications, the adapter may be placed in a confined space or cable in network applications, it may be buried under a pile of cable, so minimizing heat is essential."

The PSA100U is approved for UL, cUL and TUV. The unit meets FCC Class B and EN55022B conducted noise limits. Safety approvals pending at this time include UL1950, 3rd edition and CE (LVD and EMC), including operation through lightning strikes, surges, dips and static discharges.

Pricing for the PSA100U is $44 each per 1,000 units and samples are now available. Volumes of the adapter will be available in January 2002 with lead times of 11 to 12 weeks.
