O2Micro Expands Portfolio of Highly-Integrated DC-DC Controllers

August 07, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

O2Micro® International Ltd. announced the introduction of two new dc-dc converter controllers for notebook markets.

The expanding feature sets and performance requirements of today’s notebook computers are driving demand for higher efficiency dc-dc controllers. With the integration of high speed CPU systems, the emphasis on current consumption and efficiency has increased proportionally.

Laszlo Lipcsei, vice president of O2Micro, said, "O2Micro continues to develop circuits and components that improve the efficiency and performance of next generation notebook computing. Our new CPU DC/DC controllers, based on O2Micro’s Constant-Ripple-Current® Technology, are compliant with AMD’s SVI2 specification for its latest "A" series, second generation Accelerated Processor Units (APUs) and are optimized for superior performance."

The OZ8321 is a highly integrated dc-dc controller containing a dual phase controller with integrated drivers for the core rail and a single phase controller for the North Bridge (NB) rail. Both output voltages are programmed through a high speed serial bus, compliant with the SVI2 specification.

The OZ8322 is a highly integrated dc-dc controller containing a dual phase controller with integrated drivers for the AMD CPU core rail and a dual phase controller with external drivers for the North Bridge rail (companion chip:OZ8002). Both output voltages are programmed through a high speed serial bus, compliant with the SVI2 specification.

The OZ8321 and OZ8322 are available in a 40-pin QFN package. Both products are in high volume production. Samples and evaluation boards are available for qualified customers.
