Nippon Pulse Motor Debuts PCL-6045 Controller

November 19, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Nippon Pulse Motor Co. Ltd. (Japan) introduced the PCL-6045 motion-control chip, with a maximum output frequency of 6.5Mpps, for the operation of stepper-motor control applications. It is suitable for semiconductor manufacturing, inspection systems, medical analysis machines, scientific instruments and biotechnical instruments.

It features four-axis independent control and also supports linear interpolation, circular interpolation, and the option of having a combination of linear and circular interpolation.

Other features include damping oscillation control, a pre-buffer for the next motion-control profile, automatic correction of operating speed, backlash correction and out-of-step detection. The chip operates via a 19.6608MHz reference clock input from 0 to 70 degrees C. It has a 16-bit pulse rate resolution, a 28-bit positioning pulse setting range and a 24-bit ramp-down pulse setting range. It is offered in a 176-pin QFP.
