Newpoint Introduces PowerSquid Alternative to Power Strips

New Products Jan 05, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Newpoint has announced the addition of five new products to its PowerSquid family of power multipliers. These products provide surge protection and an innovative design that offers a flexible alternative to rigid, straight-line power strips. The company will be showcasing the PowerSquid family of products at the 2006 International CES tradeshow from January 5 to 8 in Las Vegas.

"The number of components involved in creating a comprehensive and useful home office or home theater setup is increasing rapidly," said Chee Hong, Product Development Manager at Newpoint. "The PowerSquid surge protectors offer a unique blend of stylish design and practical features that give users everything they need to both connect and safeguard their equipment."

Newpoint's PowerSquid line of products converts one grounded outlet into six grounded, adapter-ready female outlets, each mounted on a flexible arm to allow for easy positioning to avoid bulky plugs from blocking the outlets. The arms of the PowerSquid vary in length, allowing users to choose between six, eight and ten inch lengths.

Newpoint has added five new models to the PowerSquid family, each aimed to meet the needs of a unique application: General Purpose Power Multiplier, General Purpose Surge Protector, Computer/Telephone Surge Protector, Home Theater Surge Protector, and Deluxe Home Theater Surge Protector

The line of products provides a broad range of protection options. Four of the five new models also provide a 1,000 joule rating for surge suppression. Users have a choice of products that can incorporate phone/fax/modem/DSL protection with a one line splitter and coaxial/broadband line protection with gold connectors. In addition, models that include surge suppression technology also include Newpoint's Power Blocker® automatic shutdown technology to further protect attached equipment by automatically disabling the conductive power to connected equipment, once the surge protector reaches capacity, thus keeping equipment safe from further surges.

In all models, three-foot heavy-duty14/3 power cord provides with a straight-angle plug additional flexibility of movement for users. Built-in indicator LEDs allow users to check the status of power, protection and ground at a glance. All units feature contemporary design and bright white color to blend seamlessly into the home office or home theatre environment.

Pricing on the PowerSquid ranges from $29.99 to $69.99 suggested retail pricing, depending on the model.
