NetPower Intros QPS Series Quarter-Brick Converters

New Products Apr 06, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

NetPower Technologies (Plano, TX) announced its new QPS Series of isolated dc/dc converters, which deliver up to 70A of current in a standard quarter-brick package. The converters feature ultra-high efficiencies (93 percent at 55A for the 3.3Vout model) along with thermal performance. NetPower uses proprietary technologies to optimize the converter design while also maintaining a competitive cost structure, allowing the company to offer the 70A Series of isolated converters at an entry-level price less than $1 per amp.

The QPS Series of converters are available in output voltages ranging from 1V to 12V, with up to 70A of available current at the lower output-voltage levels. The products are designed for an input-voltage range of 36V to 75V (48V nominal), and meet the input-voltage transient requirement of 100V for 100ms. The QPS converters also meet the basic insulation requirements of EN60950.

Advanced control and protection features include on/off control, soft-start, over-current protection, short-circuit protection, output over-voltage protection, +10/-20 percent voltage trim, and thermal shutdown.

The QPS Series can be ordered with an optional baseplate to enhance the thermal performance in the harshest environments. The open-frame version of the converter has a low-height profile of 0.37in (9.5mm); the baseplate version has a height of 0.5in (12.7mm). The QPS Series of converters is available for $68.50 each for 1,000 units.
