Mean Well Expands AC-DC Line

March 27, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Mean Well Enterprises Co., Ltd. debuted two new product series in its ac-dc product line, the AS-120P, a 120W adaptor, and the ASP-150, a 150W open frame switching power supply. The ASP-150 was derived from the adapter design by removing the plastic case of AS-120P series.

Featuring low "no load power consumption" and built-in active power factor correction function, these two series are designed based on the energy-saving concern that is critical to consumer electronic applications. As a result of the use of zero-current and zero-voltage switching (ZCS/ZVS) technology, the efficiency of AS-120P and ASP-150 are as high as 90% and the units can provide 120W/150W by only free air convection.

The ACP-150 and AS-120P are available with standard output voltages of 12-, 15-, 20-, 24-, and 48-Vdc. The AS-120P features a power density of 5 W/in3 while the ACP-150 features a density of 8.8W/in3. Both units can be operated over an input voltage range of 90-264Vac. The AS-120P comes standard with an IEC320-C14 ac input connector and is available with a variety of options for either ac input or dc output plugs that can be customized by end users.

With short circuit, overload, over-voltage, and over temperature protection and the fully enclosed plastic case, AS-120P is designed for use in LCD TV, LCD monitor, notebook PC, and IT related applications. The ASP-150 mainly targets space constraint industrial systems since its 28.5mm low profile can fit in 1U applications.
