Maxon Precision Motors Debuts New DC Micromotor

March 29, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

A new dc micromotor with an external diameter of 22mm and a length of 62.5 mm from Maxon Precision Motors Inc. (Burlingame, CA) reaches speeds of up to 50,000 rpm and has an output of 50W. Using neodymium, currently the best available magnetic material, the dc motor's key features are its small dimensions, wide speed range, high dynamics and durability. Different motor versions are available with the maxon winding system and delta and Y circuitry. The speed range is suitable for normal operation from 0rpm to 50,000rpm, and 41,300rpm is already reached at 32V. Conversion to lower speeds and, therefore, higher torque is achieved through planetary gearhead attachments. Other features include low terminal inductance (0.02mH to 0.06mH), up to 82 percent efficiency and the absence of any cogging.
