Maxim Intros MAX5904/05/06/07/08/09 Controllers
Maxim Integrated Products Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) introduced its new MAX5904/05/06/07/08/09 family of low-voltage dual hot-swap controllers, which allow the safe insertion and removal of circuit line cards with multiple supplies from a live backplane. Designed for systems with 1V to 13.2V supplies, the controllers limit the inrush current to the load and provide protection against over-current conditions and load transients.
The controllers feature a low 25mV circuit-breaker threshold, making them suitable for low-voltage supplies. The devices also include a variable speed/bilevel circuit-breaker response feature that protects against over-current conditions and prevents nuisance faults caused by noise and load transients. After a fault condition, the device provides latched or auto-retry fault management.
All the devices include an on/off pin for power-supply sequencing, under-voltage lockout and power-good status output. The devices also come with adjustable turn-on times, adjustable circuit-breaker thresholds and output under-voltage/over-voltage protection. The devices are specified to operate in the extended temperature range from –40 to +85 degrees C.
The MAX5904/05 are housed in an eight-pin SO, while the MAX5906/07/08/09 comes in a 16-pin QSOP. The SO devices are priced from $2.61 and the QSOP devices are priced from $2.93, all in quantities of 1,000.
