MagneTek Introduces HEHB Line of DC/DC Converters

March 17, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

MagneTek Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) has unveiled the first model in its new High-Efficiency Half-Brick (HEHB) line of dc/dc power converters. MagneTek reports that the 30A, 3.3V converters conform to the industry-standard half-brick footprint, but deliver a typical efficiency of 91.5 percent under normal load conditions. The converters can be mounted on printed circuit boards, and are suitable for use in telecom, datacom and other electronic systems employing distributed power architecture. The open-frame converters have a 0.42" profile and do not require heatsinks.

The HEHB converters operate over a voltage range from 36 to 72Vdc and have an output voltage that can be adjusted by ±10 percent. These converters offer input-output isolation and operate at a fixed switching frequency of 250kHz. Other features include under-voltage lockout, over-current and over-heating protection, automatic restart after over-current shutdown, remote sensing and remote on/off.

Samples of the new converters are available for customer testing, as well as in production volumes.
