LTC Unveils LT3467 Step-Up DC/DC Converter

August 13, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced the LT3467, a 1.3MHz, step-up, dc/dc converter that combines an internal 42V, 1.1A switch with soft-start capability. Using a constant-frequency, current-mode architecture, the LT3467 operates from an input-voltage range of 2.4V to 16V, making it suitable for single-cell, lithium-ion, 5V or 12V applications. The internal 42V switch is well suited for boost converters with outputs up to 40V, as well as SEPIC and flyback designs.

High inrush current is eliminated via an integrated, programmable, soft-start function, and a constant switching frequency of 1.3MHz enables low-noise operation. The combination of the ThinSOT® package and tiny, low-cost, ceramic capacitors and inductors, results in a cost-effective, compact, solution footprint.

The LT3467 incorporates a low VCESAT, 1.1A switch to deliver efficiencies as high as 90%. It is pin-to-pin compatible with both the LT1930 and LT1613, yet offers a slightly higher current limit than the LT1930 (1.1A versus 1A) and a higher output voltage of 40V versus 34V for both the LT1930 and LT1613. Quiescent current is only 1.2mA during operation and less than 1µA in shutdown. The LT3467 is an suitable solution for applications such as TFT-LCD bias, xDSL, white LEDs or camera flash LEDs, which require both low noise and a tiny solution footprint.

The LT3467ES6 is available from stock in a six-lead, ThinSOT package. Pricing starts at $1.75 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
