LTC Debuts New LT3473 Micropower DC-DC Converter

April 10, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) debuted its new LT3473, a 1 A, 1.2 MHz step-up micropower dc-dc converter with an integrated Schottky diode and output disconnect circuitry in a low-profile DFN package, which yields a solution size of less than 50 mm².

The LT3473’s 2.2 V to 16 V input-voltage range enables it to operate from single-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries up to fixed 15 V input rails, delivering outputs up to 34 V. The internal 1 A switch allows the device to deliver up to 80 mA at 25 V from a Li-Ion cell, making it suitable for OLED and TFT display applications. Automatic Burst Mode® operation reduces quiescent current to 150 µA at no load, maximizing battery run time. An auxiliary reference input allows the user to override the internal 1.25 V feedback reference with any lower value, ensuring full control of the output voltage during operation.

The LT3473A includes two additional NPN transistors for generating intermediate bias voltages from the output, and is offered in a 4 mm x 3 mm DFN-12 package. The LT3473 does not include these NPNs and is offered in a 3 mm x 3 mm DFN-8 package. The LT3473 and LT3473A are now available from stock. Pricing starts at $1.95 each for the LT3473 and $2.05 each for the LT3473A, both in 1,000-piece quantities.
