IXYS’s New Generation of Schottky Rectifiers Rated Up to 200V
IXYS Corp. has introduced a new generation of silicon Schottky rectifiers for a broad range of off-line and dc-dc power conversion applications in telecommunications, computer, game consoles and flat panel TVs. Breakdown voltages from 8V to 200V are offered with lower forward voltage drop (VF) and improved switching efficiencies compared with previous generation devices.
The new generation power Schottky rectifiers have been developed with IXYS' proprietary process and material science technology to tailor the specifications for a wide variety of applications.
"We call it 'Application-Optimized' designs that enable our customers to use the most suitable diode for their circuits. The technology is an extension of our present power Schottky devices with its proven reliability and wide power range," commented Dan Schwob, IXYS Senior VP of Marketing. "These new products have improved ruggedness with avalanche ratings that cannot be met by any other Schottky technology and, given our expertise in material science, resulted also in improved thermal design enabling higher levels of integration, higher power density and improved efficiency. We have proven again that silicon based Schottkys have a higher performance to cost ratio than SiC based Schottkys for high power applications."
IXYS offers in this new generation, 11 voltage classes from 8V up to 200V, with three design variants to optimize low voltage application, from OR'ing to higher voltage switch mode power supplies. Design 'D', suited for breakdown voltages (Vrrm) below 15V, offers an extremely low VF. The 'B' type, with a Vrrm of 15V and up and very low VF combined with an improved reverse current, allows for reduced conduction and switching losses.
In the 45V to 80V the customer can select a 'B' or an 'A' type. The 'A' version shows extremely low leakage currents and is optimal for high temperature applications such as those found in automotive designs and flat panel displays. The 'A' Schottkys are suitable for higher voltage applications in power systems for telecommunications and some flat panel plasma and LCD displays.
The Schottky products are available in several standard packages, surface mount and leaded, and IXYS' "ISOPLUS" thermally efficient and isolated packages.
