IXYS Adds Low Leakage Ultra Fast Rectifiers

March 29, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

IXYS Corp. announced today the introduction of a new generation of ultra fast rectifiers. The new generation is called HiPerFRED2™, which is an addition to Ixys' existing HiPerFET™ and HiPerFRED family of MOSFETs and fast recovery rectifiers.

The new HiPerFRED2 technology has been developed as an 'application-optimized' design, allowing designers to use the most suitable diode for their circuits with improved reverse recovery switching characteristics and thermal behavior allowing higher integration and compact designs, space-saving constructions and a higher system efficiency. In addition, this family incorporates a new passivation technology that reduces the leakage current under high voltage blocking conditions thereby lowering standby temperatures and improving system reliability.

The voltages classes ranges from 200V up to 400V. Two design variants give designers the choice to optimize applications such as decoupling diodes, snubber circuits, freewheeling diodes, and switch mode power supplies. Design 'F' offers an extremely low forward voltage drop (VF) that supports circuits where the on-state losses are dominating. 'G'-Types were developed for high switching frequencies. Both designs offer a leakage current well below 1µA.

The HiPerFRED2 with part number nomenclature starting with DPG10 (10A) to DPG120 (120A) are available in several standard packages - surface mount and leaded such as: TO3P, TO247, TO220FP and D2Pac. They are also available in our industry recognized ISOPLUS DCB isolated packages.

Typical popular part numbers for PDP include: DPG60C300QB - a 300V, 2x30A in common cathode configuration in TO3P Package. Other parts popular for dc-dc converters are: DPG20C200PN - a 200V, 2x10A in common cathode configuration with a Vf of 1.0V. TheHiPerFRED2 family is also available in die form for use by power hybrid manufacturers.
