IR Introduces DC-DC Converters With Regulated Power For High Temperature Applications

October 06, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier, (IR)® introduced the HTA family of high temperature dc-dc converters for high power subsurface and high temperature applications up to 185° including down-hole drilling, seismic and natural resource exploration, and jet engine control electronics.

The new dc-dc converters are well suited as building blocks and intermediate bus converters for power systems. Available as commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), the new converters are said to significantly reduce design cycle time, size and design costs associated with high temperature applications.

"The HTA series not only provides designers with immediate high reliability and design simplification, these devices establish the design foundation and assembly processes for power converters operating in extreme high temperature environments," said Tiva Bussarakons, Marketing Director for IR’s HiRel DC-DC Converter Products.

The HTA series is capable of providing up to 20W of output power over extreme case temperatures of minus 35 to 185°C. The family of devices has an input voltage range of 150 to 250V and is offered in single and dual output configurations. Input and output are galvanically isolated to protect the output loads from catastrophic system failures at the input side and provide the flexibility of stacking several converters to achieve a higher output voltage.

Additional features include small size, low weight and high tolerance to environmental stresses such as wide temperature extremes and severe shock and vibration.

The new high temperature dc-dc converters are available immediately. Pricing begins at US $4,450 for the HTA20005S.
