Intersil Unveils Endura ISL6115/ISL6116 Controllers

October 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced the new Endura ISL6115 and ISL6116 hot-plug/hot-swap power controllers designed to provide economical and reliable power control for power-distribution applications, including high-end servers and storage systems.

The ISL6115 is a +12V high-side, single-rail controller intended for hot-plug and hot-swap applications. The ISL6115's feature set includes under-voltage monitoring and power-good notification, programmable over-current detection and fault isolation, programmable current regulation, programmable current limit time to latch off, rail-to-rail common-mode input-voltage range, an internal charge pump that allows the use of less costly n-channel MOSFETs, an adjustable turn-on ramp, and fast sub-microsecond response to a dead short.

The ISL6116 is a +5V low-side, single-rail controller intended for hot-plug and hot-swap applications. It has all of the features of the ISL6115 and can be configured for load voltages greater than +15V, or negative voltages such as the -48V used in the telecom industry.

"Mission-critical applications such as servers and storage systems require careful power control and hot-plug capability to avoid costly downtime and loss of use," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's Analog Business Unit. "The ISL6115 and ISL6116 single-rail power-distribution controllers have the full complement of features needed for critical applications, including over-current fault isolation, adjustable turn-on ramp, and under-voltage monitoring and notification."

The ISL6115 and ISL6116 are available now. Pricing is $1.90 for 1,000-piece quantities.
