Intersil Announces ISL6269 PWM Synchronous Buck Controller

New Products Jun 21, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new ISL6269 single-phase, pulse-width modulated (PWM), synchronous buck controller, which requires few external components and is targeted at mobile graphical processing units in notebook PCs and other battery-operated devices. The ISL6269 controller includes onboard MOSFET drivers, internal 5 V LDO, integrated boot diode and a PWM audio frequency filter.

The ISL6269 features Intersil's Robust Ripple Regulator (R3) technology to provide dynamic response to input voltage and output load transients; 1% regulation accuracy from -10 °C to +100 °C; a resistor divider to program the output-voltage setpoint; configuration to operate in forced-continuous-conduction-mode or diode-emulation-mode; over-current, short-circuit, over-voltage and thermal protection; a 1.5 msec digital soft-start that can be started at a pre-biased output voltage; programmable PWM frequency from 200 kHz to 600 kHz; an input-voltage range from 7 V to 25 V; an output-voltage range from 0.6 V to 3.3 V; and an output load range from 0 A to 25 A.

The ISL6269, housed in a 4 mm x 4 mm QFN package, is priced at $2.50 in 1,000-unit quantities. Lead-free versions are also available.
