A New PSB Series of Bidirectional Regenerative Power Supplies and AC/DC Power Supplies

October 03, 2020 by Alessandro Mascellino

In this week’s converter recap, we take a look at power supplies from TRACO POWER, Bel Power, and Intepro.

This recap showcases power supply products designed for different uses, from industrial, automation, and IoT applications to energy storage in renewable energy systems and more.

Bidirectional and Regenerative Power Supplies From Intepro Systems

This new, bi-directional package features an auto-ranging DC power supply, together with an electronic DC load with energy recovery.

The PSB Series is a programmable device designed to replace individual programmable sources and loads.

Programmable functions include electric vehicle load profiles, battery charging, PV simulation per EN 50530 and MPP tracking, and others.

Enabling two-quadrant operation in a single machine, the new power supplies can free up rack space, reduce weight and cost.

They are also highly efficient, with regenerative load capable of returning up to 95% of test energy to the grid.

In terms of applications, the new power supplies are primarily intended for DC motor drives.

However, new applications for such Bidirectional DC-DC converters (BDCs) also include energy storage in renewable energy systems, fuel cell energy systems, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

The new series is available in different variants, with outputs of 15KW in a 3U x 19” rack chassis (PSB 9000) and 30KW in 4U (PSB 1000) and they may be connected in parallel for operation up to 2MW.

For more information about the PSB Series, you can check out Intepro’s website here.

AC/DC Power Supplies From TRACO POWER

The TPI 125 series includes 125 Watt AC/DC power supplies with a reduced footprint of  2x3 inch and featuring an open frame design.

These power supplies were built for applications in industrial, automation and test & measurement fields.

Providing 125 watts of power and consisting of 5 single output models providing 12 / 15 / 24 / 36 / 48 VDC (adjustable-20 / +10% ), the new series comply with the ErP directive and Class B EMC limits.

The TET2200 Series includes two different devices: the TET2200-12-086RA, featuring reverse airflow, and the TET2200-12-086NA utilizing normal airflow.

The units’ dimensions are rather compact, considering their power, with sizes of 3.4 x 1.5 x 7.7 inches, and a power density of  53.1 W/inch3.

The new power converters also feature digitally controlled power factor correction for efficient operation, as well as a unity power factor over its wide operating range.

A datasheet with additional information on the  TET2200 Series is available on Bel Power’s website.
