Bel Power Unveils the TET2200 Series of 2200 Watt Power Supplies

September 25, 2020 by Gary Elinoff

Aimed at storage, servers and networking equipment, the units supply a main output of 12 VDC for powering intermediate bus architectures

Operating from an input range of 180 to 264 VAC, the new power supplies can provide 2200 watts of power. When supplied with 90 to 180 VAC, the power output is 1200 watts.

There are two members of the TET2200 Series. The TET2200-12-086RA and the TET2200-12-086NA feature reverse airflow and normal airflow, respectively. Noteworthy for their small size, the units’ dimensions are 3.4 x 1.5 x 7.7 inches, and power density is 53.1 W/inch3.

80 Plus Titanium Efficiency

Bel Power Solutions describes the TET2200 Series as meeting “80 Plus Titanium efficiency.” What that means is that for a 230 volt input input, the unit achieves the following efficiency levels.

  • 90% efficiency at 10% load
  • 94% efficiency at 20% load
  • 96% efficiency at 50% load
  • 94% efficiency at 100% load

In addition, the devices exhibit little derating of output power with respect to ambient temperature.

The Intermediate Bus Architecture

TET2200 Series Power Supplies deliver 12 VDC for powering intermediate bus architectures (IBA).

This new architecture rests on two premises. The first is that because providing electrical isolation from the line voltage is expensive, adds weight and takes up space, it should only be done once. Secondly, a bus converter should reduce the input voltage to such a level that allows non-isolated buck regulators to operate efficiently.

Features of the TET2200 Series

The units feature digitally controlled power factor correction (PFC) for efficient operation and a unity power factor over its wide operating range. PFC is specified at a nominal 0.96, and rises to well over 0.99 as power output reaches closer to a maximum. Additionally, the  DC-DC stage employs synchronous rectification along with soft switching resonant techniques.

The output features an active OR-ing capability that ensures no reverse load current, making the hot-pluggable units suitable for utilization with redundant power systems. To provide power to external power distribution and management controllers, the  TET2200-12-086 Series offers an always-on +12V standby output.

Status information is provided with front-panel LED. Additionally, these devices are DSP controlled, allowing them to be monitored and controlled thru an I2C bus, which also enables the bootloader to remotely update the DSP controller’s firmware.

Due to an X-capacitance of 3.88 µF, the power supply exhibits a low inrush current and a short peak when the device is connected to the power main. Additionally, the units feature a quick-acting 20 amp fuse to protect against major defects.

Environmental Specifications

  • CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 62368-1:14
  • UL 62368-1 2nd Ed.
  • IEC 60950-1:2005
  • EN 60950-1:2006
  • IEC/EN62368-1:2014

Other Bel Power Products

The TET2200-12-12-086xD DC-DC Front-End Power Supplies are DC to DC 2200 watt power supplies. They are tasked with the conversion of -40 to -72 VDC inputs into an isolated  +12 VDC output. Like the TET2200-12-086RA and the TET2200-12-086NA, these units are also suited to IBAs powering routers, servers, and network switches.
