Infineon Samples New 10G XFP Transceiver Module

March 24, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Infineon Technologies AG (Germany) announced that it has begun sampling of its new 10G XFP short-reach transceiver module that uses an 850nm VCSEL to support transmission at distances of up to 300m over high-bandwidth, multi-mode, optical fiber. The modules comply with 10GbE, 10Gb Fibre Channel and OC-192/STM-64 requirements, and also meet the specifications laid out by the XFP MSA.

Features include dual clock and data-recovery functions that support trance lengths of up to 1ft and an interface that provides "intelligence" by allowing access module operation status information as over-temperature conditions, loss of transmission, reception or synchronization, laser bias current, and dc supply voltage levels.
