High-Current Four-Terminal Shunts for High Sensing Efficiency

April 26, 2018 by Paul Shepard

The HCSK Series from Stackpole is a surface-mount metal-element high-current shunt with four terminals. Four-terminal Kelvin sense resistors provide the most accurate sensing as it removes the effect of lead resistance in the sensing function.

The HCSK2725 rated at 5W at an ambient temperature of 100 degrees C utilizes unique materials and a raised element which provides tolerances as low as 1% and TCR of 50 ppm / degree C.

The robust HCSK has excellent stability over life, high temperature exposure, moisture resistance, rapid change of temperature, and short time overload testing.

The HCSK2725 is readily available in the 1 milliohm resistance value. Other resistance values are possible based on customer demand. It is suitable for sensing currents up to 70 amps.

The high temperature capability, accuracy, and stability are suited for applications including power modules, frequency converters, motor controls, hybrid power current sensing, E-scooters, and automotive engine controls.

Additional resistance values are currently under development and will be available in the near future.

Pricing depends on tolerance and order volume, but typically ranges from $0.50 each to $0.60 each in full reel quantities. Contact Stackpole or one of its franchised distributors for volume pricing and inquiries regarding other resistance values.
