New Products Mar 07, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Hewlett-Packard Co. (Houston, TX) debuted its new HP UPS R5500 XR 5,000 VA, rack-mount, uninterruptible power system (UPS), which is designed for customers who want to provide power protection in space-constrained environments. The 5,000 VA UPS delivers 4,500 W and combines both hot-swap batteries and hot-swap electronics into 3U (5.25 in). International units deliver 6,000 VA and 5,400 W.

With a unique electronic design using digital signal processors rather than a transformer, the HP UPS R5500 XR weighs 30 percent less than typical industry models, and also provides voltage regulation without using the battery. Option cards are also available for SNMP, networking, multi-server and operating system control.

The HP UPS R5500 XR ships with a free copy of the new HP Rack and Power Management software. The HP UPS R5500 XR is available in US and worldwide configurations at $3,099, and includes a three-year warranty. Pricing may vary by country or region.
