Haydon Switch Unveils Size 11 External Actuator

January 21, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Haydon Switch and Instrument Inc. (Waterbury, CT) unveiled a size 11, hybrid external linear actuator to its growing hybrid motor line. The rotating stainless steel acme lead screw is incorporated into the motor's rotor. Shaft to lead screw couplings are not needed with this design, saving time, money and labor during assembly into the final application. The new external linear actuator replaces four different components - a motor, coupling, lead screw and nut. The motor is suitable for applications requiring precise positioning and rapid motion such as medical equipment, X-Y tables, automation of any kind, valve control and more.

The nut on the external linear actuator uses the same engineering thermoplastics as the rotor drive nut of HSI's non-captive and captive designs. The external actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.000125 in (0.003175 mm) to 0.002 in (0.0508 mm) per step, and delivers thrusts of up to 25 lbs (11.5 kg) without compromising long life or cost.
