Glary Power Technology Introduces New Thin Brick Series

May 14, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Glary Power Technology (Taiwan) recently introduced its Thin Brick Series of conversion products. This series contains two sizes with two pin-out assignments and full metal-packed dc/dc converters that are 0.34" in size.

The Thin Brick Series is reliable and low in cost, reducing total component counts. The series uses ceramic capacitors to achieve predicted MTFB by MIL-STD-217F2. The 112W per cubic inch power density of the 100W Real Quarter size converter is the real quarter size with the smallest footprint (2.28" x 1.15") 100W dc/dc converter in the world, according to Glary. In addition, the 150W-rated power capability of the Thin Brick Series 150W quarter-size converter is claimed to be the highest power density (135W per cubic inch) quarter-size dc/dc converter. Both series feature pin-out assignments that are compatible with two types of industry-standard quarter-brick converters.

The Thin Brick Series is designed to reduce the total cost of distributed-power systems. The low-profile design shrinks the board pitch; high reliability cuts maintenance cost; and a competitive price (as low as $0.5 per watt) saves the initial cost, according to the firm.
