FDK Senpai POL DC-DC Converters Deliver Up To 165W With Output Voltage Tracking

FDK Corp. announced the addition of eight new dc-dc converters to its Senpai Series of non-isolated point-of-load converters. Operating from a 6.0 to 14.0Vdc input bus with a tightly regulated programmable output voltage of 0.75 to 5.5Vdc, these converters incorporate an output voltage tracking function that enables various sequenced power-up and power-down scenarios when using multiple converters. The FPMS12T converters deliver up to 55W of output power at a power density of up to 600W/in² and the FPLS12T converters deliver up to 165W at a power density of up to 560W/in². With little or no derating up to 85°C, these converters are described as providing best-in-class thermal performance.

The FPMS12T converters are offered in 6, 8, and 10A output current models, in a 1.0 x 0.472 x 0.195" (25.4 x 12.0 x 4.95mm) industry-standard SIP package. The FPLS12T converters are offered in 10, 16, 20, 25, and 30A output current models, in a 2.0 x 0.535 x 0.276" (50.8 x 13.6 x 7.0mm) industry-standard SIP package. All models feature remote ON/OFF, over-current and over-temperature protection, and output voltage adjust, and are compatible with standard trim equations. The output voltage tracking function supports three kinds of sequenced start-up and shut-down scenarios: sequential, simultaneous, and ratiometric.

Applications for the Senpai Series of point of load converters include Intermediate Bus Architectures (IBA) and Distributed Power Architectures (DPA) in telecommunications, data processing, networking and computing, and other applications that require high efficiency, tight regulation, and high reliability in elevated temperature environments.

All Senpai Series products are RoHS compliant. They are manufactured using FDK’s state of the art in-house manufacturing processes and systems in Japan. In quantities of 1,000 pieces, the FPMS12T converters are priced at $7.00, $8.00, and $10.00 for the 6, 8, and 10A models, respectively, and the FPLS12T converters are priced at $11.00, $14.00, $16.00, $18.00 and $20.00 for the 10, 16, 20, 25, and 30A models, respectively.
