Fairchild Semiconductor Offers FSUSB23 CSP Switch

New Products Sep 26, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc. (South Portland, ME) offered its new FSUSB23, a small, single-port, USB 2.0 high-speed (480 Mbps) analog switch in a MicroPak™ chip-scale package (CSP). The compact packaging, combined with low power consumption (720 MHz) operation, make it suitable for today's multi-functional cell phones. The 1.6 mm x 2.1 mm MicroPak 10-terminal, CSP delivers a 68-percent footprint reduction compared to typical switches (3.36 mm² versus 10.5 mm²). Additional applications for the FSUSB23 include personal digital assistants, MP3 players, digital cameras, and laptops.

The FSUSB23's ability to switch high-speed USB signals allows it to pass the eye diagram compliance for ac and dc performance to meet the USB 2.0 high-speed standard. It also retains complete USB 1.1 full-speed (12 Mbps) reverse compatibility for use in a range of applications. The FSUSB23 complements Fairchild's expanding line of USB switch solutions providing wide bandwidth, high signal quality, and compact packaging. Other USB-compliant products include the FSUSB22, a low-power, two-port analog switch for high-speed USB compliance, and the FSUSB11, a low-power, single-port, full-speed USB switch.

The lead-free FSUSB23 meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B, and is compliant with European Union requirements. Pricing is $0.97 each for 1,000-piece quantities for both the FSUSB23L10X in the MicroPak™ package, and the FSUSB23BQX in the DQFN package. Available now, delivery is four weeks ARO.
