Fairchild Semiconductor Announces the FDS6694 MOSFETs

August 12, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor International (San Jose, CA) announced the first of its new generation of PowerTrench n-channel MOSFETs. Fairchild reports that the new MOSFET delivers virtually indistinguishable overall efficiency in dc/dc converter applications to that of leading competitive devices, while achieving a substantial reduction in die size and a dramatic improvement in the QG X Rds(on). The new FDS6694 is an SO-8 packaged, 30V, fast-switching, trench MOSFET. It is suitable for use in high-side applications in synchronous and conventional dc/dc converters for notebook computers, desktop computers and other dc/dc power-supply applications.

Howard Chen, director of marketing for Fairchild, said, "The PowerTrench technology pioneered by Fairchild has been the driving force behind significant performance advances in dc/dc converter design. The FDS6694 signals the beginning of the next stage in the evolution of Fairchild’s trench MOSFET technology, and places Fairchild directly on target to provide total power solutions aligned with industry technology roadmaps over the coming years."

Pricing for the FDS6694 is $0.49 each in 10,000-piece quantities. Samples and production quantities are currently available, with delivery in eight weeks ARO.
