Fairchild Intros FMG2G50US120/FMG2G75US120 IGBTs

New Products Sep 20, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor International (South Portland, ME) introduced two 1,200 V, 50 A and 75 A rated IGBT modules, the FMG2G50US120 and FMG2G75US120, which have optimized on-state loss versus turn-off switching loss (Eoff) for use in welding machines, uninterruptible power supplies and general inverters in the 10 kHz to 30 kHz operating frequency range.

The FMG2G75US120 decreases power losses by up to 20% compared to parts utilizing non-punch-through (NPT) technology. (Test conditions in a CO2 welding application yielded significant results of 20 kHz switching frequency, 380 V three-phase input, 300 A output, 40 A current peak at full load, and 20% duty maximum at full load.) To fulfill the high reliability requirements in targeted industrial applications, the new 1,200 V IGBT power modules also provide a low variation of VCE(sat) over temperature. The 75 A rated FMG2G75US120 provides a maximum variation of only 0.1 V from 25 °C to 125 °C. Both 1,200 V devices feature a full, 10 µsec short-circuit withstand time, and square reverse biased safe operating area to enhance system ruggedness.

The FMG2G50US120 and FMG2G75US120 are available in two-PAK module packaging and are UL certified. Pricing in 100-unit quantities is $57.45 each for the FMG2G50US120 and $67.30 each for the FMG2G75US120. Available now, delivery is in 12 weeks ARO.
