Everlight Releases Random-Phase & Zero-Cross Triac Driver Optocouplers

Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd. introduced a complete portfolio of 6-pin DIP random-phase and zero-cross triac driver optocouplers offering what is described as the widest operating range (-55 to +100°C) available.

Encompassing 21 different devices with a choice of peak blocking voltages from 250 to 800V, the EL30XX triac driver optocoupler family is said to provide added design flexibility and significant board-space savings in designs interfacing between low-current dc control circuits and ac power loads up to 380V. These include industrial and consumer applications such as refrigerators, dishwashers, temperature controls, air conditioners (HVAC), vending machines, lighting controls, ac motor drives, solid-state relays and solenoid/valve controls.

The company states that the EL30XX triac driver optocouplers offer an inexpensive alternative to using costly discrete driving circuitry requiring multiple components that consume board space. The zero-cross versions of the triac driver optocouplers provide added protection in the form of a zero-crossing detection circuit connected to the gates of the individual Silicon-Controlled Rectifiers (SCR). This eliminates current surges, reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and significantly improves transient immunity (dv/dt). Additionally, the 800V series of zero-cross devices provides a better safety margin for control of off-line voltages of 380V.

Everlight’s EL30XX devices are grouped in three random-phase series: EL301X (250V), EL302X (400V), EL305X (600V) and four zero-cross series: EL303X (250 V), EL304X (400V), EL306X (600V), EL308X (800V).

The units are priced (each) at $0.20 to $0.40 in production quantities, with a delivery time of 6 weeks, ARO.
