Ericsson Microelectronics Introduces the PKM 4000 100W Quarter Brick

February 27, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Microelectronics (Kista-Stockholm, Sweden) recently announced that it has expanded its range of high-power dc/dc power modules with what it claims is the world's highest efficiency 100W quarter brick, the PKM 4000.

The PKM 4610 PI supplies 3.3V and 20A at 89 percent efficiency. The PKM 4000 family is designed to offer 15A and 20A versions with 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V outputs to match leading-edge electronics, as well as offering 75W and 100W ratings at 5V and 12V outputs. The device offers a 36V to 75V input range, an industry-standard 2.28" x 1.45" x 0.5" footprint and a 100-degrees C maximum case temperature. The PKM family also includes comprehensive built-in protection circuitry, and offers fast dynamic response times (100uS) and low output ripple (50mV).

Other features of the PKM include over-voltage shutdown, under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown, soft-start, remote control on/off, output voltage adjustment and short-circuit protection. The PKM 4000 is designed to meet EN 60950 and is UL 1950 recognized.

In quantities of 500, pricing for the PKM 4510 PI (3.3V/15A) will be $79, while the PKM 4610 PI (3.3V/20A) will be priced at $92. Samples are currently available from stock.
