EnerSys Intros Datasafe HR Series VRLA Batteries

July 17, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

The Reserve Power Group of EnerSys Inc. (Reading, PA, formerly Yuasa Inc.) introduced its new Datasafe HR Series of high-rate-discharge, valve-regulated, lead-acid (VRLA) batteries that are suitable for uninterruptible power supplies and other applications that require maximized space utilization combined with high energy density.

The batteries use proven gas-recombinant VRLA technology that minimizes gas evolution during charging and discharging, allowing battery installation in cabinets or on stands in a variety of environments to maximize space utilization. The gas-recombinant technology also eliminates the need for watering, reducing maintenance costs. The batteries feature flame-retardant ABS case material with ribbed thick walls and lids that provide protection against shock and vibration, flame arrestors built-in to each cell, and covers that are bonded to containers using a leak-proof heat seal. Absorbed glass mat separators completely absorb the electrolyte, so there is no free acid to leak if the battery case is accidentally damaged. The batteries also meet critical industry standards, including UL approval, IATA certification for air transport and US DOT classification for non-spillable batteries.

Constant power discharge ratings at room temperature for the Datasafe HR205, HR300, HR330, HR400 and HR500 are 204W, 284W, 330W, 381W and 506W per cell at the 15-minute rate (1.67 end voltage/unit). Each battery features a 12V mono-block design with an operating temperature range of 0 to 40 degrees C. Optional lifting handles are also available. Dimensions for the Datasafe HR series are 8.6in x 6.5in x 8.7in (HR205), 10.3in x 6.9in x 8.2in (12H300), 12.3in x 6.5in x 8.7in (HR330), 13.6in x 6.8in x 8.4in (12H400), and 13.6in x 6.8in x 10.8in (12H500).

Pricing for the HR205 Datasafe battery starts at $180 each. Delivery is four weeks ARO.
