Elgar Electronics Unveils New ReFlex Power Controller

September 26, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Elgar Electronics Corp. (San Diego, CA), a manufacturer of programmable ac and dc power supplies, announced its new ReFlex Power™ (RFP™) controller for military automated testing, which employs digital control and power technologies in a high-density, modular, programmable power system. The ReFlex Power™ controller provides a reconfigurable, flexible platform that is suitable for automated testing equipment and production test environments where it can provide programmable stimulus and bias power as well as programmable loads for devices under testing.

The 4U unit high RFP™ mainframe can hold up to 12 single-slot modules or combinations of the available single-slot, dual-slot, and triple-slot wide modules to configure (or reconfigure) the system for the particular requirements at hand. The mainframe can support up to 6 kW of output power and the fully programmable power modules offer 330 W and 1,000 W dc power modules, an 875 VA dual output-voltage range ac power module, and 500 V/375 W and 750 W dc load modules. Up to eight mainframes of modules can be controlled via a single controller. The RFP controller communicates to the host via an Ethernet LAN connection, compliant with the LAN Extension for Instrumentation standard. The controller communicates to the individual modules via a proprietary, high-speed backplane providing high data rates and a high degree of deterministic control.

Full commercial release of the new RFP™ controller is scheduled for the late first quarter of 2006.
