Electric Fuel Announces New Instant Power Chargers

June 25, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Electric Fuel Corp. (New York, NY) announced that its new Instant Power Charger is now being released for the latest generation of PDAs, including the HP Jornada Series, Casio PDA Series, Palm m500/m505, and Handspring Visor Edge, as well as the Novatel Minstrel S wireless modems for Handspring and HP PDAs. Models are also available for the Palm V Series, Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs, Handspring's Visor Prism hand-held computer, and Handspring's VisorPhone, Novatel Minstrel V wireless modems, and dozens of mobile phones.

Each package includes a 2in x 2in zinc-based PowerCartridge that is activated when exposed to air, a special SmartCord adapter that connects the universal cartridge to the specific PDA model, and an airtight pouch designed to store the cartridge between uses in order to halt the chemical reaction and thereby preserve power for the next use.

Together, the cartridge and cord weigh less than 3oz and plug directly into the PDA for use on a plane, the street or anywhere else an electrical outlet is not readily available. Each cartridge is good for up to three charges and hours of operation.

“We are pleased that PDA users will now be able to keep on working without electricity,” said Electric Fuel President and CEO Yehuda Harats. “With the Instant Power Charger, PDAs begin delivering power within one minute and charge while being used, even if there’s no electrical outlet for miles around. The result is an anytime/anywhere charging solution for business trips, an antidote to a dead battery at home or away, and peace of mind in a package small enough to slip into a corner of your briefcase.”

Electric Fuel’s Instant Power Chargers are available for $19.95. Replacement cartridges are sold separately for $9.95.
