Clare Introduces New Family of 4-Pin Solid State Relays for Reed Relay Replacement

New Products Feb 01, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Clare, Inc. announced the immediate availability of their new 4-pin, Standard In-Line Package (SIP) 1-Form-A (Single Pole, Normally Open) and 1-Form-B (Single Pole, Normally Closed) Solid State Relays (SSRs). This family of 4-Pin SIP devices specifically targets reed-relay replacement applications and are pin-for-pin compatible.

This 60V family of solid state relays is voltage controlled (5-12V input) and provides higher reliability than electromechanical and reed relays because there are no moving parts to break down. Additionally, these SSRs do not require snubber circuits and no magnetic contact testing is required as with reed relays.

The Single Pole, Normally Open CPC1218Y features 600mA of current handling and very low on-resistance of 0.8Ω. The Single Pole, Normally Open CPC1217Y features 200mA of current handling and 16Ω of on-resistance, and the Single Pole, Normally Closed CPC1219Y features 150mA of current handling and 16Ω of on-resistance. Each device is manufactured using Clare’s patented OptoMOS architecture and provides a 2500Vrms input-to-output isolation barrier.

Target markets and applications for these devices include the security market, Passive Infrared Detectors, industrial controls, solenoid switches and drivers, sensor circuitry and instrumentation. The pin-for-pin compatibility with reed relays, increased reliability, elimination of potential shielding components and increased time to market, make these devices suitable for various applications as replacement ICs.

The CPC1217/18/19 4-pin Relays for Reed Relay Replacement are currently available in production quantities.
