C&D Technologies Unveils 4700/4800 Series Inductors

October 14, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) unveiled its new 4700 and 4800 Series of surface-mount inductors, which offer enhanced design flexibility coupled with EMI protection. The low-profile, bobbin-format, dual-winding devices have a 1:1 winding ratio and can be connected in either series or parallel to give a range of inductance combinations.

Devices in the two new series are designed for use in power applications and are also suited to switched-mode power supplies where the secondary coil can be used as a feedback winding. Nominal inductance values for both the 4700 and 4800 Series range from 1.0 µH to 400 µH (at 10 kHz and 100 mVac). Devices in the 4700 Series handle a maximum continuous current of 9.5 A, while 4800 inductors have a higher rating of 12.3 A.

In addition, power applications benefit from high levels of efficiency as a result of low maximum dc resistance values. These range from 4.8 milliohms to 686 milliohms for the 4700 Series and 4.9 milliohms to 503 milliohms for the 4800 Series. A wide operating temperature range of –40 °C to +85 °C broadens the number of applications in which the devices can be used. With maximum heights of 5.0 mm and 6.2 mm respectively, the new 4700 and 4800 Series inductors are suitable for such space-limited environments.

Available in a tape and reel format, the 4700 and 4800 Series are fully compatible with high-volume automated manufacturing systems. Pricing for the inductors in OEM quantities begins at $0.40 for both the 4700 and 4800 Series.
