C&D Technologies Offers NDTS Series DC-DC Converters

September 19, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) offered a new range of high-functionality dc-dc converters with a single isolated 3 W output. The new NDTS Series converters accommodate a 2:1 wide input-voltage range and short-circuit protection within a small low-profile package, making them suitable for high-density industrial, control, and telecommunications applications. Load regulation ensures that output remains stable with changes in load and input voltage, while the ability to deliver 3 W output power at temperatures up to 85 °C eliminates the need for heat-sinking in most applications.

The NDTS Series converters have a voltage set-point accuracy of ±1 percent with external capacitors. Nominal input-voltage options are 24 V and 48 V, with respective input ranges of 18 V to 36 V and 36 V to 72 V. The 24 V devices are well suited to industrial and control applications, and the 48 V parts are suitable for telecommunications designs. Output-voltage options are 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, and 15 V for each nominal input voltage. In all cases, isolation between the input and output is rated at 1 kVdc. Typical line and load regulation are rated at 0.15 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively. A fly-back oscillator with isolated feedback gives regulation over the operating load range with connection pins formed from a tin-plated alloy 42 lead frame. Integrated short-circuit protection minimizes the need for external protection electronics.

The NDTS converters feature an internal SMD construction, and are supplied fully encapsulated in industry-standard, 24-pin packages with a footprint and height of 4.73 cm² and 7 mm, respectively. Encapsulate and case material are UL 94V-0-rated. Sample os the NDTS Series are available now, and volume lead time is currently eight weeks. Pricing for the NDTS Series is below $11 per unit in OEM quantities.
