C&D Technologies Launches NPX20 Series DC Converters

April 14, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) launched a range of integrated single-output, isolated converters with output currents of 6 A and output voltages down to 1.8 V. Available in three different, industry-standard pin patterns, the NPX20 Series delivers high levels of flexibility and functionality to new designs and provides "drop-in" replacement options to existing designs that need to evolve to higher currents and lower voltages.

The NPX20 dc-dc surface-mount and through-hole converters will suit a wide variety of industrial, telecommunication and other applications using components that require low-voltage inputs. The series offers a choice of two wide input-voltage ranges - nominal 24 V input devices can accommodate voltages from 18 V to 36 V, while the nominal 48 V input parts are compatible with voltages between 36 V and 75 V. Output-voltage options are 1.8 V, 2.5 V and 3.3 V in both cases. The rated output current of 6.0 A results in output powers ranging from 10.8 W to 19.8 W.

The NPX20 converters are based on a synchronous rectifier technology and are designed to meet the requirements of UL 60950. All of the devices have input-to-output isolation of 1,500 Vdc and incorporate high levels of integrated functionality, including over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. The NPX20 converters can be supplied in surface-mount and through-hole package styles depending on the specific application requirements. Surface-mount parts have dimensions of 51.2 mm x 25.7 mm x 8.5 mm (2.02 in x 1.01 in x 0.33 in) and through-hole alternatives measure 50.4 mm x 25.6 mm x 6.0 mm (1.98 in x 1.00 in x 0.24 in).

The NPX20 Series dc-dc converters have unit pricing of under $24 in OEM quantities.
